For those who love music in Scotland

EMR intends to be the place to go for coverage of classical music, opera and folk music in Scotland. We intend to review all the major concerts given in Scotland by established orchestras and opera companies. We will also be covering smaller music groups and touring companies. In the field of folk music we will cover major concerts, such as Judy Collins in our launch edition, festivals like Celtic Connections and smaller performances from folk clubs.

Our reviewers will be, on the whole, enthusiastic amateurs who love music and have years of experience. We will also offer some news on forthcoming concerts and operas in Scotland, and perhaps some gossip and occasional articles on the state of music in Scotland. We are lucky to have some good advisors to guide us: Carol Main MBE, the organiser of Live Music Now in Scotland, Brian Bannatyne-Scott, the fine bass opera singer from Edinburgh, and David Francis, Director of the Traditional Music Forum.

We also want your feedback and hope you’ll comment on our reviews and posts on The EMR Blog. We are very lucky to live in a country with a great musical heritage and a very high standard of music. The Conservatoire in Glasgow, which covers classical music, opera, folk, jazz and drama, has been rated at number three in the world. We have the greatest arts festival in the world in Edinburgh, and one of the finest folk festivals in Celtic Connections in Glasgow. There are many smaller festivals of international standard, such as the Lammermuir Festival and the East Neuk festival. We intend to cover them all and make the Edinburgh Music Review the place to go for music reviews and music news in Scotland.

You can help us by spreading the word, by posting our reviews on your Facebook page and Twitter, and by telling your friends about us. We launched in February 2020 and hope to become part of your musical life.
