Concert for Ukraine

Last weekend witnessed an epic fundraiser pulled together by Strathfest to raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Local musicians came freely together for one night only resulting in a great evening of music and song. Inverallan church hosted the event, and the pews were filled with folk eager to hear live music at last and to support this worthy cause. The programme reflected everyone feelings at this time of crisis. Compere for the evening was local musician Hamish Napier who did a great job. With a stirring introduction by master piper Sandy MacDonell the audience were then treated to a fabulous opening set by renowned musician Charlie McKerron with Monadh Ruadh demonstrating the talent of the Feis Spe. Local soprano Stephanie Wade followed with a touching rendition of ‘Somewhere’ from West Side Story accompanied by Leslie McCracken. The first half drew to a close with the wonderful Marie-Louise Napier and a short address by Bill Lobban.

During the Interval, the audience were able to purchase refreshments kindly donated by Scotmid and MacLean’s Bakery.

After a long period of absence Bella Voce at last were able to sing together with two beautiful numbers, followed by Eric Pirie accompanied by Hamish Napier. Not only did he demonstrate his skills but kindly supplied the equipment on the night. Our local Museum curator Dan Cottam sang next, followed by a set by The Braeriach Quartet which included the Ukrainian National Anthem causing the audience to stand in respect. The headline spot was reserved for Hamish with a mixed set of music and song. The grand finale saw tenor Christopher Josey singing a powerful version of ‘Imagine’ with choir, musicians and artists and audience coming together.

Including ticket sales and generous donations the phenomenal amount raised came to £4691. This is donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee. All artists and volunteers gave their services free. The concert is now available on the Strathfest YouTube channel (below).
